Let's make a sightseeing tour of the Village Museum whose values have been preserved from about a couple of countries. We invite you here as if it were our house. Here the reality woven with myth and legends gives life a most sincere expression of autentic Romanian. In 1969 we thought of opening this village museum and in 1974 it was opened to the public and everything in it is original. In organising the village we took into consideration the specific features of Romanian village that "really lives" even if we could rely on the fact that it is animated by your presence as guests.
All the buildings that were brought from various parts of the county have been placed taking into account the relief of the zone, so, nothing should inspire a deliberate idyllic attitude. Everything (the traditional preoccupations, folk techniques, specialised buildings) is able to offer you the original image of the Valcean village. The spiritual life is presented with generosity. We hardly enter the village than we are welcome by the primary school, by a wooden church established in 1785, by the crosses which are alongside the road and the inn ever ready for guests.
There are 45 houses furnished with ever 8500 original pieces. Everything is presented the way it originated starting with a sheepfold brought from the mountains and ending with houses, which are in the middle of the village, with one or more rooms. The houses will please you with porches from Horezu zone, by wine-makers'house from Dragasani vineyards. There is a series of workshops for pottery, for carpentry, for weaving goat-hair etc.
Of a great interest are the technical equipments, the water-mills brought from Loviste region, the felting-mill, the boiler for "tzuica" and many other equipments used in wine production. Last but not at least, we think you should be impressed by the folk art of Valcea county, illustrated by its interior decoration. We hope that this spot of Romanian folk art and culture which is the Village Museum should be closer to your soul after having visited it.
