Cultural Manifestations Organised by the Astra Museum For the Campaign "Europe, a Unique Patrimony"


The Children's Olympiad "Traditional Artistic Handicrafts"


Within the framework of the programme established for the revival of our traditions, especially of the folk artistic creation, by promoting traditional handicrafts as part of school extracurricular activities, the Olympiad "Traditional Artistic Handicrafts" has an important place. Starting with 1992, the "ASTRA" Museum organised "The fair of the Children Artisans from Romania", as am extension of the "Romanian Artisans Fair", that has been yearly organised since 1983. As a result of our efforts, the Ministry of Education agreed to include this Olympiad among the national Olympiads organised for children by this ministry.



Organisers: the Ministry of National Education, the Culture Ministry, the Educational Inspectorate of Sibiu District and the "ASTRA" Museum

Aim
: to make the school pupils aware of the everlasting value of the Romanian folk art, culture and civilisation, the develop the children's gifts and skills in the field of a certain handicraft, to offer them real opportunities of working

Place
: the Open Air Museum in Dumbrava Sibiului (for the national phase)

Period: during the summer holidays

Participants: children between 6-18 years old experienced in the secrets of the traditional crafts, dressed in special folk costumes of their village


Types of creation: weaving, pottery, wood carving, bone and metal processing, icons on glass and wood, egg painting, masks manufacturing, vegetal fibres weaving and others. The works for the contest must respect the local tradition and in the same time it mirrors the talent and their own power of creation. In order to promote and popularise a national and international level the most skilful little artisans, the "ASTRA" Museum will do its best to organise the handicraft's fair and exhibitions.
